To create Bliain Le Baisteach, we had to get all the rainfall data and satellite images from Met Éireann, Ireland's National Meteorological Service. After some exploratory discussions, Met Éireann attacked the problem of gathering all the necessary info, with great enthusiasm. | |

Met Éireann is a full member of EUMETSAT, the European Meteorological Satellite Organisation. EUMETSAT is responsible for the launch and operation of the satellites and for delivering satellite data to end users as well as contributing to the operational monitoring of climate. |

Originally the European Space Agency, the organisation launched its first meteorological satellite in 1977. Meteosat 7, the present operational satellite which is in geostationary orbit above the Equator at 0° W, took the 6-hourly Infra-red images used in the Bliain Le Baisteach and these were received at Met Éireann's HQ in Glasnevin, Dublin. |
