Take a walk on the wetlands side: World Listening Day 2014 in Limerick
We invited people to participate in a soundwalk in Limerick City in Ireland.
Start: 14:00, Friday the 18th of July 2014.
We gathered at the small parking area, north of Barrington’s Pier, on the North Circular Road at the Ted Russell Park. See map below.
This year, we ventured slightly to the west of Limerick City, to the Westfield Park. It is an interesting wedge of land, between the North Circular Road and the River Shannon, bisected by Condell Road, with a good variety of wildlife. There is a small lake at the centre of the site, walkways (also accessible by wheelchair) through the site, and a viewing platform for observing waterfowl on the lake.
The issues explored are the subjective and objective aspects of listening to our everyday soundscapes, on the boundaries between the urban and the wild.
